Rating: 4.7 out of 5 stars Where do I even begin with We Were Liars? It's undoubtedly one of the most unique books I've ever read. I wasn't even sure how I felt about it for several weeks after reading it, and it was only after re-reading it and taking time to think that I managed to formulate an opinion. I don't want to say a lot about We Were Liars because I feel that it's best if you read it without knowing anything about it. I'll just say that it's about a teenage girl named Cadence who, with the help of her cousins and friends, tries to figure out the details of an accident that damaged her memory two years earlier. We Were Liars is a very spoiler-heavy book, so try to read it as fast as possible and don't talk to anyone about it until you've finished it. I can easily see how this could be a book that people either love or hate, and you likely won't know how you feel about it until you've finished it (and maybe not even then). The writing style is unique and poetic, and E. Lockhart is able to squeeze a great deal of background and information into only a few pages. If you're looking for some contemporary mystery or maybe just a little bit of drama, check out We Were Liars. NOTE: A movie adaptation of We Were Liars is supposed to be released by Imperative Entertainment. The release date is unknown, as are many of the details, but I'll try to update (likely under my movie review page) as I learn more. We Were Liars has the potential to make a truly stunning and powerful movie, but only if certain elements are done just right. However, I've heard that E. Lockhart is writing the script, so hopefully it will be a success! I definitely recommend reading the book first though! |
